Yes, in the Depression (and after) men who were homeless & out of work would frequently hitch illegal rides on freight trains to go elsewhere to look for work. They would gather in "hobo camps" in between rides and beg for food etc. from locals or catch wild animals or steal from farmers' produce. As they were almost all men, and many were adolescents or young men in their 20s there was lots of MSM going on.
