Florence Foster Jenkins is famous, even infamous, for her singing, or perhaps in spite of it. Here is an article from Coronet Magazine in 1957 which will tell you almost everything you wanted, or feared, to know about the Diva of Din.

the glory??? of the human voice

the late and great Anna Russell was a great fan of Florence Foster Jenkins. "She's my patron saint! she's the only woman in the world who sings worse than I do!"

(I'm not making this up, you know. It's from an interview-plus-recordings done by the CBC of Anna about 10y ago)

I am entirely of her opinion. I was first introduced to FFJ by the CBC several years before that, when I heard, as the announcer put it, "Florence Foster Jenkins doing serious damage to the Queen of the Night aria".

She wanted to entertain people and make them happy, and, God bless her, she succeeded, in spades.

I love the woman.

Perhaps the Great Callas was similar in that they were able to convey emotion through their singing.

FFJ was able to bring joy and astonishment to everyone who hears her.

I was very surprised when I first hear her voice on CD about 5 yrs ago.

Ahhh.... that magic flute is a killer.
but the improvision was faultless.
