I read about this in the paper, that they were magnetic lights, probably like our Lite-Brite toys. After seeing the pictures of them, I really gotta say people need to lighten up! No pun intende-- oh who am I kidding?

Seriously though I know that Aqua Teen Hunger Force isn't the most well-known show, but those lights look more like art installations or graffiti than a public danger. I wonder if Banksy's stuff causes people to call the police as well...

One interesting thing is that Boston authorities got all freaked out, whereas the ones in NYC, Chicago, SF, and LA apparently didn't notice.

The real stupidity on TBS's part was not to let the local authorities know ahead of time. They were probably afraid that (1) said local authorities would say "not without X permits approved N weeks in advance you don't!" and/or (2) someone would leak.
