Ratty, the finale
Dec. 29th, 2009 09:04 pmThe exterminator returned today to check under the sink. I was a bit taken aback two weeks ago when he said he wanted to drop by again, but thought it would do no harm. He had sealed up the hole that the mice and rats were using to come in and out of the sink area, so I thought, naïvely, that we had seen the end of the rodents. Well, I was wrong.
He arrived and took the panel out from under the sink. He peered under with his torch, then triumphantly pulled out a trap, sprung, with another (much smaller) rat in it. He wanted to chuck it into the back garden but I asked him to put it in the bin outside.
He explained, "I was pretty sure we'd find another rat in there. I think that this one probably bit the other one's head off in the trap and ate its body; that's why we didn't find a body last time. So I set more traps and came back."
So there you have it. He thinks we're probably rat-free for the moment. I hope to heaven he's right.

Date: 2009-12-30 09:14 am (UTC)Remember, in any big city (Singapore included) you are never more than 5 meters away from a rat. (They are in walls and in sewers).
Please don't worry.
