Not much had been happening in the Old Town, but this week there seems to be a bit of full moon fever there or something. If this is all the miscreancy they could come up with, they're pretty well off, if you ask me.

Tuesday, July 23

  • At 8:05 a.m., a dead bird was found in the roadway at Rockaway Avenue and Marion Road. The Board of Health was notified but they are not collecting dead birds since West Nile has been in town for years.

  • At 9:32 a.m., a tree limb fell on cars on Jackson Road. The DPW was notified.

  • At 10:29 a.m., a hit-and-run accident was reported at Pleasant and Maverick streets. A witness told police that a silver Jeep hit a car in front of it then the Jeep sped off. The Jeep headed outbound on Pleasant, left on Smith and outbound on Atlantic. The witness provided police the license plate number of the Jeep. Police called the owner and she said she did not know for sure but assumed it was her daughter who was driving. Police asked that her daughter come to the station.

  • At 11:20 a.m., a Humphrey Street caller reported that someone was using her Social Security number.

  • At 1:12 p.m., a walk-in to the station reported that a plastic bird feeder with decorative brass trim was stolen from her Green Street home.

  • At 2:07 p.m., a Cheever Street resident said she was sleeping on the couch the night before and heard a noise outside. She also heard a kid from across the street yell: Where are you going?” The resident went to work the next morning and got a call from her daughter who said the four tires on the car at home were flat and had slash marks on the walls.

  • At 5:13 p.m., the trench washed out due to flooding at West Shore Drive and Cornell Road.

  • At 4:29 p.m., a Franklin Street caller said a man painted white lines in the street in front of his house and on the curb to widen the area for him and his tenants. The anonymous caller said she didn’t think it was right for him to do that. It turned out the man had touched up previously painted areas because he was tired of people blocking his driveway. Nosy neighbours are the WORST!

  • At 8:36 p.m., a Naugus Avenue caller reported that young people went into her garage and deposited trash there. She was afraid they might come back and do damage because her husband confronted them. Police spoke to the group. They said one of them went into the garage to throw something away. The kids were moved along.
