I had been reading the Police Log in one site, which seems to have dried up. Fortunately for us all, another site was much more lively. So, I've gone back to July 1st and collected all the interesting log entries for your delectation. I have put a lot behind cuts but, believe me, that wacky and wonderful little town next to Salem keeps its constabulary jumping and the stuff behind the cut is sometimes as funny as the stuff outside it. Don't miss it!

12:25 a.m. Assisted caller on Russell Street with out-of-control teenaged son. Son then called 911 and reported that his stepmother had just threatened him. Officer spoke with both and restored the peace.

2:52 p.m. Caller reported that there were three men who had attempted to get into her house on Auburndale Road. They were holding pamphlets and had since left the house and moved on down the street. Officers determined that they were legitimate and advised them of the town bylaw on door-to-door soliciting.

7:51 a.m. Walk-in said a vehicle had been parked in front of his house for six days without moving on Pleasant Street, which was bothering his mother-in-law. Many men would have encouraged the vehicle to stay longer in that case.

2:25 p.m. Officers investigated report of man masturbating at park near Harbor and Ocean avenues. Officer spoke to other people in park but did not see anything. Man reportedly had a blanket over his lap. That was SO thoughtful of him.

5:33 p.m. Officer was flagged down by Ocean Avenue resident about noise in the house. Officer found that wind had opened a door. Every little breeze seems to whisper Louise…

8:07 p.m. Caller on Waldron Court Place reported having lost her orange tabby cat with a magnet on its collar. Just go out with an iron crowbar and sweep the streets.

9:17 a.m. Caller on High Street reported that his neighbor’s car had rolled into his the night before, scraping the bottom of the bumper. He had taken photos and now had the car with him at work. He said his wife planned to leave a note for the neighbor about the incident and just wanted the incident logged. Log noted that this was the third call on High Street about man’s vehicle rolling from its parking spot and hitting another car. Man allegedly comes in late at night from the bars with music blaring. Roll out the barrel…

8:48 p.m. Caller reported fireworks in the area of Highland Terrace and Bowden Street. Officer reported that he would be checking the whole neighborhood, as it appeared “everyone has them going off.” Officer spoke to everyone, and display ended. Must have taken the officer quite a while to speak to "everyone". He actually didn't speak to ME

10:13 a.m. Assisted caller with getting car moved so cannon could get out on Elm Street. Far from being a war zone, Marblehead is normally peaceful.

12:03 p.m. Caller reported two black males around 14 years old who “seemed suspicious” in the area of Stratford and Londonderry roads. Oh dear, guilty of walking around being black.

12:12 p.m. Woman came into station looking to file a report about vehicle that belonged to both her and her parents, which her parents had at the time. However, she then received a phone call, which seemed to resolve the issue. We should get Hercule Poirot on the case, mostly to figure out what was said in the phone call.

12:15 p.m. Caller reported suspicious activity — two black males walking around, “checking out the neighborhood” — on Leggs Hill and Londonderry roads. They had been last seen heading down Leggs Hill towards the YMCA. One was shirtless, and one was carrying a large bag. Oh, a SHIRTLESS black man, and another one carrying a large bag. Bring 'em in, Ossifer!

12:52 p.m. As fire engine was passing by Front Street, lieutenant was told about the overnight theft of two crates’, or about 150 pounds’, worth of lobsters. SOMEone had a great Fourth of July shindig.

6:10 p.m. Caller reported he was driving home and had observed a man on an inflatable whale. He was concerned about the man’s well being, given the weather. Harbormaster spoke to man who was fine and “enjoying the Fourth of July.” He was advised to stay away from the channel. Sounds like he needs to stay away from nosey callers. What channel was he watching again?

Saturday, July 5, 2014
12:05 a.m. Caller reported kids setting off fireworks on Commercial and Prospect streets. People involved were advised of state laws regarding fireworks and said they would take the festivities inside for the night.

12:35 p.m. “Unfortunate resident” of Curtis Street complained about having to navigate all the detours downtown, who noted that the only cut-through was on Jersey Street, where cars were parked on both sides. He recommended the street being posted for parking on one side only. He was directed to the selectmen’s office to request that change, which caller said was “ridiculous.” He said that cars could get through “eventually” if drivers were patient. Officer was sent to check the parking situation, and he reported that cars were all parked legally. Man called back and said that he had another suggestion, and because dispatcher was unwilling to listen to him, he asked to speak to someone else. Call was put through to lieutenant. I'll bet the dispatcher got an earful from the unfortunate lieutenant.

5:03 p.m. Caller reported a neighbor dispute on Front Street. Woman was upset at neighbors shooting off cannon. Officer spoke to resident with the cannon who agreed not to shoot it off. I wonder if it's the same cannon the police assisted in moving on July 4th.

6 p.m. Caller on Stevens Road reported she would be hosting a wedding reception until 11:30 p.m., and that the neighbors were allowing them to park on the street. Dispatcher told her that was fine as long as there were no no-parking signs prohibiting it. She said the signs said, “No parking either side.” Dispatcher informed her that the guests could not park there. This is an entry from the Department of Duh!.

9:06 p.m. Caller expressed concern about man setting off a cannon with too many people around on Gas House Lane. Officer reported no one was shooting off a cannon at the moment. They really should have left that cannon alone the day before.

10:19 p.m. Caller on Prospect Street reported that a neighbor had told her that the night before an unknown person had kicked her arborvitae and had also broken her planter. She was advised to call police anytime she saw or heard anything suspicious. "…kicked her arborvitae? Them's hangin' offenses.

10:57 p.m. Caller reported her next-door neighbors were having a party in the driveway and that people were screaming. Officers reported that basketball game was over for the evening. They should have known, with all the 7-foot tall people around.

Sunday, July 6, 2014
1:28 p.m. Caller said that on several occasions she had seen a man down at the beach located just across the causeway on the right, on Harbor and Ocean avenues, who was going down there with college-aged women and doing photo shoots all the time. When asked, man said he was shooting for Maxim magazine, but in caller’s opinion, women were “not Maxim-styled women” but “kind of average.” Caller found the setup suspicious. Caller added that the man and the models sometimes appear to be drinking beer. Man was not at the park at the moment. Woman said she would call if she came across them again. Models are now not allowed to drink beer, as it's bad for their figures.

1:42 p.m. Caller reported losing cell phone with “curly thing” on top on Smith Street. Cheez Curls? Curly-Wurlies? Curly fries?

Monday, July 7, 2014
9:39 p.m. Caller requested well-being check of friend on Washington Street whose phone had been busy for the past three hours. Man was fine. He said sometimes he just does not like answering the phone. Diogenes would have stopped looking had he encountered this man who lives on Washington Street.

Tuesday, July 8, 2014
12:47 p.m. Caller on Haley Road reported that her husband’s ex-wife had been “impersonating her.” Officer said he would call the woman and speak to her.

Wednesday, July 9, 2014
11:55 p.m. Caller on Green Street reported hearing a new loud buzzing sound in the neighborhood, which sounded like a transformer. Officer checked the area and concluded it was an old, loud air conditioning unit at caller’s neighbor’s house.

Thursday, July 10, 2014
7:17 a.m. Caller reported that neighbors on the corner of Pleasant and Gerry streets were having landscaping work done, and someone had just come by with a wheelbarrow and had taken one of the unplanted trees and walked up Gerry Street. It was determined that the caller misunderstood the situation, and that neighbors had been given the tree to plant at their house. OK, you can call off the All Points Bulletin. The tree has been found and it's resting comfortably.

8:03 a.m. Auburndale Road resident accidentally set off alarm while hanging curtains.

7:03 p.m. Softball players looking for a bathroom set off alarm at Veterans Middle School. They should have done what we used to do: pee in the woods.

Friday, July 11, 2014
10:18 a.m. Caller reported having found a lawn jockey in upper parking lot on Stramski Way. It was determined to be one that had been reported stolen from Endicott Avenue. DPW planned to return it to owner’s house. This item is from the "Department of Bad Taste". If it was a black lawn jockey, it was from the "Department of Bad Taste, Racist Division".

11:26 a.m. Caller reported that he had set out a cooler with ice and a bag of fish in it for a friend to pick up on Peabody Lane and Harbor Avenue and that a man with a ficus tree in the back of his truck had come along and stolen the cooler. This couldn't have been related to the missing tree yesterday, could it?

4:27 p.m. A 37-year-old woman from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and a 35-year-old man, also of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, were arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, trespassing, soliciting without a permit, furnishing a false name and Social Security number upon being arrested and Registry of Motor Vehicles ID card fraud after a caller on Brown Street reported man and woman walking a dog had rung the doorbell and, when no one answered, had walked through the backyard and tried to sell girls an Exxon Mobil card. Girls also had been offered some kind of pamphlet. Woman was also found to have two court warrants as a fugitive from justice. Officers caught up to the pair near the Marblehead Neck Wildlife Sanctuary on Risley Road. Neighbor reported having seen one of the pair throw a screwdriver in a yard as police arrived. Animal control officer was called to take custody of the dog. Dispatcher had contacted Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who transferred the call to Interpol Canada. Canadian authorities stated that it appeared that neither woman nor man’s licenses were valid. Interpol in Washington was also contacted to check whether they had come through the border on July 7, as they had stated in Niagara Falls using the IDs they had. Interpol analyst checked records and determined that they had not crossed the border with the IDs presented and asked that copies of the IDs be faxed for further investigation. Peel Regional Police had no records of either woman or man. Man was transported to Essex County House of Corrections in Middleton at 11:27 p.m. Woman was held at the Marblehead police station and asked for coffee and to make a phone call at 9:04 a.m. Saturday. The coffee was the last straw. The Mounties need to come down and collect these people.

Saturday, July 12, 2014
1:06 p.m. Caller on Washington Street reported two dead rats had been found in a bucket on her property. She was advised that police don’t pick up dead rats on private property and that it was her responsibility to dispose of them. She said that other occupants of the building had denied knowledge of the rats. Caller later called back to say that neighbor thought the rats had been placed intentionally. She was offered to have an officer come down and take a report, but she declined. What do we have the constabulary for, if it's not to pick up dead rats on private property?

Sunday, July 13, 2014
7:40 a.m. Caller on Hillside Avenue reported that someone from “National Grid” had been attempting to call her every day. She said she had changed her number twice as well as her address and was scared because the caller kept finding her number. Officer determined that it was not harassment but a legitimate issue regarding billing. Stay tuned for Act II…

Monday, July 14, 2014
5:45 p.m. Caller on Haley Road asked to speak to an officer about his belief that his ex-wife had entered house and had taken a chair during the day. Perhaps she was just tired.

6:10 p.m. Caller reported two people arguing on Green Street. Officers determined it to be a verbal argument between brother and sister regarding a pickup. Aunt came to pick up the nephew.

Tuesday, July 15, 2014
4:58 p.m. Park and Rec supervisor came into station to report that ex-employee may have pulled plugs on a couple of boats, which had then almost sunk with kids and employees on board. Ex-employee allegedly admitted responsibility for the incident in text message to another councilor. Officer spoke with both complainants and contacted the suspect.

9:01 p.m. Caller reported that another driver had passed his vehicle on Highland Terrace. Caller said that when he pulled over to let a passenger out, the driver of the other car began to harass him. Caller said the driver then followed him and said, “Now I know where you live.” The driver then reportedly left the area, headed towards Village Street. A description of the vehicle was given to the patrol officers.

Wednesday, July 16, 2014
10:59 a.m. Investigated report of domestic disturbance on Pleasant Street. Officers found it was a verbal argument over littering. When they say "Don't be a litterbug!" they MEAN it!

4:19 p.m. Caller on Pleasant Street reported strange odor in basement. Responders determined it was a water-heater issue and turned off the water for repairs.

Thursday, July 17, 2014
8:42 a.m. Caller on Hillside Avenue reported she was still being “harassed” by phone to pay National Grid bill, which police had earlier determined were legitimate collection calls. Act II. This lady really needs to pay up.

10:28 a.m. Officer stood by on Tedesco Street. I suppose it's better than "sitting on your behind.

4:45 p.m. Jetski accident reported right off Devereux Beach. Woman reported she could see the reflection of her son’s jetski and that he was yelling for help. It turned out not to be a medical issue but a fuel issue.

6:12 p.m. Walk-in requested assistance removing unwanted person from her house but then decided she no longer wanted the help of police because she had been asked to take her dogs outside, as they were barking excessively in the police station lobby. Officers then began the process of trying to obtain an emergency restraining order on woman’s behalf, but woman said she could not wait any longer for an on-call judge to call back and did not want to pursue the restraining order any longer. She then returned to the police station lobby to say that she had changed her mind and wanted to pursue the restraining order. On-call judge was paged again. After some difficulty tracking down the on-call judge, a restraining order was granted at 9:09 p.m., and officers went up to serve it upon the subject. While en route, woman called to say that man had locked her out of the house and would not let her in. Restraining order was served in hand. Man was allowed to grab some belongings while officer stood by and then left the area. But what happened to the barking dogs? Will no one think of the dogs?

9:44 p.m. Walk-in turned in flip phone that had been found on Broughton Road. Number for “Mom” was called, but there was no answer. That's so sad. I lways thought that "Mom" would be there for me.
